Roles

Supplier Quality Engineer

an engineer who qualifies and monitors suppliers to make sure the parts and materials they provide meet a manufacturer’s requirements

Your job, minus the screen work

You make sure what the plant buys will meet the drawing before it ships. You qualify and audit suppliers, approve first articles and PPAPs, and decide what quality requirements travel with each PO. When bad parts arrive, you're the one who asks why the PO let it happen.

Where your week goes

  1. Checking the approved supplier list every time a buyer asks
  2. Reconciling the QMS supplier list with the ERP, if ever
  3. Opening POs one by one to confirm revision and clause codes
  4. Emailing suppliers for expired certificates after an auditor finds them
  5. Searching sent mail to prove a supplier received a drawing revision
  6. Answering the same "which clauses?" question for different buyers

What an agent takes over

  1. Supplier approval check

Confirms approved status in both the QMS and the ERP, plus certificates, scorecard and open corrective actions.

  2. PO review

Checks every PO line for the current revision and the right clauses from your clause library.

  3. PO dispatch

Sends the PO with drawings and full clause text at the right revision, and saves proof of delivery.

  4. Certificate renewals

Spots expiring certifications and sends renewal requests with registry screenshots on file.

What stays with you

  • Supplier audits and what they found

  • PPAP, first article and material review decisions

  • Accepting or rejecting a supplier's root cause

  • Approving with conditions, and writing the clause library
